Document Services
Documents are my first love. I only want the best for my document friends, and the best means making sure they are clear, concise, and well organized. Let your documents shine instead of losing luster from grammatical errors, wordiness, technical jargon, and poor organization.
Your audience will thank you.
Copyediting and Comprehensive Editing
“You write to communicate to the hearts and minds of others what’s burning inside you, and we edit to let the fire show through the smoke.” – Arthur Plotnik
Usability is just as important to print documents as it is to Web documents. If your audience is distracted by the text and design of your document, it won’t get your message, which is the most important part.
I use my formatting and editing super powers (expertise) for good by producing clear, concise, and consistent documents. I work with you to polish your document so you and your target audience are happy.
What’s the difference between copyediting and comprehensive editing, you ask?
In the Red Ink Geek universe (technical communication field):
- Copyeditors check for grammar, punctuation, correct spelling, consistency in mechanics (for example, capitalization of key words or acronyms), and formatting.
- Comprehensive editors review the content, organization, style, usability, and design of the text as well as copyedit. As the name suggests, it is a comprehensive analysis of the document purpose, message, and overall effectiveness.
Style Guides
Comprehensive editing also includes revising or creating a style guide for your business or organization so all members of your team are on the same page.
Style guides pair nicely with templates to create a brand for your business or organization.
What is a style guide?
A style guide (also called a style manual or stylebook) is a set of writing and formatting standards for documents (or any authored product, such as websites or software) to ensure consistency for a specific project or for all your documents.
Style guides can include standards for all aspects of your documents from grammar and language use to branding, color palettes, and page layout.
Document Templates
All great documents start with a solid foundation: the template. Templates take all the guesswork out of document design. Focus your valuable time and effort on your message while Red Ink Geek takes care of the design.
Perhaps you need a report template for a specific project, or perhaps you need an entire suite of templates to match your business branding; whatever the need, I work with you so you can get back to being awesome.
